memories in ukee
One of my favourite family holidays is when my parents visited Canada from Australia and stayed in Ucluelet. Our accommodation was right on the beach, we hardly left. The sunsets were incredible, filling the rooms and our hearts with golden light.
In the late afternoon we would venture down to the beach to watch the sunset. My Mum would be looking for sea glass, my partner exploring the rocks, my Dad walking alongside me and my dog joyfully running between us. I have photos of each of them in these moments, though I wish I had just one of all of us together. I wish I had a photo of me enjoying their company.
I believe in the importance of capturing our loved ones and ourselves. Capturing these moments to remember, share and pass down the stories to the next generations. So they too can know where and who they came from. Our stories make up who we are.
Film photography speaks to this legacy. It’s nostalgic and timeless. Captured at a slower pace with intention, intuition and trust.
